This page is used to give Pack, Troops, Crews, Ships, Posts and individual Scouts information on available community service projects.  These ideas come to us from the community and will change as they are completed or as new ones are presented to us.

Do you have an idea or know of a worthy cause?  Email the Council office at bsa099@scouting.org and let us know!

  • Midtown Miracle Community Garden Project
  • From the Head of The Little School at Savannah Country Day School: We have a large, open, playground in need of some work that I thought possible Eagle Scout candidates might be interested in helping us do.  An example of an idea we have is to create an outdoor art space for our children, ages 2.5 years to 4 years of age.  We are open to other unique ideas for our children using as many natural items as possible.  If you are interested in meeting with me about some ideas I would really love to speak with you.  Thank you so much. Contact:  Dr. Pamela Connor Head of The Little School Savannah Country Day 912-961-8830

  • Through our partnership with Chatham County, the Chatham County Park Services will provide Eagle Scout Project opportunities to Eagle Scout candidates throughout area parks and facilities. Also, Boy Scouts ‘Clean The Park’ Days at various county parks will be scheduled periodically.  Also, Boy Scout troops will be able to use certain parks for field days, picnics and other Scouting events. For volunteer opportunities or Eagle Project ideas, call Steve Proper or Vicki Blumberg at Chatham County at 912-652-6781.

  • The UGA Marine Extension offers a community service activity that includes a presentation on local marine ecosystems and will fulfill certain merit badge requirements.  The community service portion of the activity consists of bagging oyster shells in mesh bags that will be used to build new oyster reefs.  To arrange this activity, contact Sarah Rinn, Research Technician at the UGA Marine Extension at (912) 598-2350 or sarinn@uga.edu

  • Fresh Air Home at Tybee is always in need of help with maintenance and other projects.  They offer week long stays at the beach for under-privileged children so that they can enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and recreation at no cost to the families.  Contact our office for details.

  • Massie Heritage Center is in the process of producing a new exhibit for our museum.  We are the oldest continuous public school in Georgia, established in 1856, and are currently a Heritage Center open to the public.   Many school and scout groups also visit our facility for programs and walking tours with our teachers to learn about Savannah and Georgia’s history.  In fact, we also have a Historic Savannah Hike patch that scouts can earn.  (Details are already listed on your BSA website under Outdoor Programs.)  Our various hands-on exhibits explain Savannah’s City Plan, Architecture, Historic Preservation, the history of Native Americans and also an 1850’s Heritage Classroom.  The topic of our new display will be Ships and Savannah Maritime History.  We are partnering with some of the local universities and wanted to see if any of the boys working on their Eagle Scout badge would be interested in helping to develop one or more of the interactive games for this display.  We already have determined what we would like to have created and would be glad to speak with someone about the details.  More information about Massie can be found at www.massieschool.com

They are a foster-based shelter, but have a temporary camp for animals waiting for adoption and/or foster until there is room. This place is called Camp Pawsawhile and needs lots of work done! It's been in operation since last summer, but still has much to be done to get it more functional. Please contact the Founder/Director, Lisa Scarbrough, at lisa@coastalpetrescue.org.
